The PERFECT Açaí Bowl


One of my all time favorite healthy recipes to make is an açaí bowl. They're delicious, jam packed with vitamins and nutrients, and so simple to make - what's not to love? 

Açaí has become exceedingly popular since the early 2000s and has since been deemed a "superfood". I mean, how could it not? The açaí berry is said to have health benefits of improving brain function, lowering cholesterol levels, and it may even have powerful anti-cancer effects. 

But enough about the benefits. Most likely if you've found yourself reading this blog you already know how awesome açaí is and you're looking to make the best açaí bowl the internet can find.

Açaí smoothie base:
  • 1 pouch of frozen açaí 
  • 1 large banana (cut into pieces and frozen for at least 6 hours)
  • 1/2 cup of frozen mango or blueberries (optional)
  • 1 handful of spinach (optional)
  • 1/4 cup of almond milk
My personal favorite açaí pouch is Sambazon but Trader Joe's is a close second. If you're like me and you like your açaí bowls to have a thick, almost creamy texture then I would recommend adding frozen mango or more frozen banana. 

Toppings:
  • 1/4 cup of granola
  • 2 tbsp almond butter
  • 1 handful of chopped strawberries
  • 1 handful of blueberries
  • 1 tbsp of chia seeds
Get creative with your toppings! For a special treat you might want to add dark chocolate chips. 

Directions:
  • Run the açaí pouch under warm water and break into smaller pieces 
  • Combine açaí, spinach, almond milk, frozen bananas, and any other frozen fruit in the blender
  • Blend thoroughly (be sure to mix your smoothie with a spoon to ensure that all of the ingredients are blended well)
  • Add toppings
  • Enjoy!
